New FFA Program Sponsored by PH Alum
Pawnee Heights High School has been granted a charter for an FFA Chapter. The program is aligned with the State Department of Education, allowing students to complete a career pathway in Diversified Agriculture. The school is partnering with Barton County Community College to offer dual high school and college credit in Ag Welding, Ag Mechanics, Introduction to Ag and Ag Internship FFA.
"The move seemed like an obvious one as student's career interest surveys show an overwhelming interest in trades or Ag related industry." stated Mrs. Tina Vondracek, school principal. The effort is being overseen by an advisory committee made up of local trades and agriculture professionals, and includes student representation. During the next school year, students will conduct regular FFA meetings, attend regional and state FFA events, and invite local professionals into the classroom to share knowledge and experiences in their profession.
The news gets even better, as former alumnus Chris Ellis (Class of '84) saw this new program as an opportunity to give back to the school and students at Pawnee Heights. He has covered the costs of purchasing the entire curriculum for all four courses in the Ag career pathways. This contribution makes it possible for the school to focus on the costs associated with student FFA activities. Chris has said that "he never forgets where he came from" and has embraced the idea of giving back in appreciation many times in the past. Numerous students have been recipients of scholarship monies that Chris and his siblings, Coleen (Class of '83) and Curtis (Class of '85), have provided.
Chris's latest financial investment in the school and its students will have a significant impact on the career readiness of Pawnee Heights graduates who become a part of our local agricultural heritage.
Thank You Chris Ellis!!
